A brief introduction to the International Academy of Literature and Arts (IALA)
Institutional positioning and purpose
The International Academy of Literary and Artistic Sciences (IALA) is a non-profit, membership based international academic and artistic organization aimed at promoting literary research and artistic creation exchanges on a global scale. Its core mission includes promoting research in literary and artistic theory, supporting original writing and artistic practice, and building cross-cultural and interdisciplinary collaboration platforms. IALA adopts a “lifetime academician” system and the concept of “interdisciplinary thought leadership”, allowing writers, critics, visual and performing artists from different countries and professional backgrounds to participate together.
Main activities and projects
- Annual Academic and Creative Forum: Hold an online/offline mixed “International Literary and Art Forum” once a year, inviting academicians and young scholars to share the latest research results and creative experiences.
- Youth Residency Program: Establish the “IALA Residency” for young writers and artists, providing annual funding for 10-20 outstanding young people to conduct research or creation in designated cities for 3-6 months, and hold a graduation exhibition or book club at the end of the term.
Organizational Structure and Membership
IALA has a Council and several expert committees (such as the Literature Research Committee, the Visual Arts Committee, and the Cross Media Committee). The Council is composed of no more than 50 lifetime fellows, and the total number of fellows in the Academy is no more than 200. The fellows are recommended by existing academicians and elected through anonymous voting. In addition, there are two levels of “Senior Members” and “Junior Members”, who are responsible for reviewing, project guidance, and supporting newcomers, respectively.
